Reading time during GAMSAT, making the most of it

This article has been viewed 253 times.

GAMSAT allows the candidates a good portion of reading time before each section. The Gamsat allows a block of reading time at the start of each section. Sections II is allocated 5 mins and I and II are allocated 10 minutes respectively. For Section I and Section II: – First things first, Flip through the test book and check page number sequence and that the diagrams are printed correctly. – While you are flipping through, keep glancing the questions and keep analyzing if the questions are on your strong subjects or not or if they are complicated will take you more time to work on, long or short etc.

While doing this keep planning which questions will you attempt immediately and which ones will you keep for later. This will help you to manage your time, so you will know how much time needs to be spent where. – You cannot actually record answers during the time allocated for reading; neither can you make notes on the GAMSAT question book or on the answer paper. Having read the questions during the reading time gives you a chance to record your answers mentally and it is easier to remember them and record them when you are actually attempting the question.

It saves time and surprises. You are aware what is in the test and you are planning your time while you are answering the questions. It will surely give you an extra 10 to 15 mins for difficult questions where either diagrams or making notes is required, for example organic chemistry. So use this tip to effectively utilize the reading time. – Like I mentioned before, you cannot make notes during reading time. Its strictly for reading, but if you accidentally record an answer on the book, does GAMSAT say they will give you a clean sheet? No they will not.

But there is are a lot of ideas floating around there where candidates are using and developing new systems like tiny incidents, pencil placements etc to remember or simply record correct answers. Well we are just talking about a few questions here 5 to 10 maybe and the ones that you know thoroughly, so to save on a bit of time there for the more difficult ones. For the essay section, section II, GAMSAT allocates 5 minutes for reading time. It’s good to use this time to view both prompts and get your natural response out. You can use this time comfortably to identify the supporting statements and arguments for the topics available.

This time can also be used to weigh these statements also maybe quotations you might want to use there, examples you may have read in the pre material or some examples you may have collected during the course of your own life. All this will give you a smooth writing time of 25 minutes where you don’t have to break the writing process for thinking over and over again.
